The Little Prince
About performance
The show, featuring the brilliant and enlightening poetic tale, which is recognized as the greatest literary achievement of the 20th-century French literature, delights the audience with its unique production created with sand animation and performed by two artists.
As a child, everything is a great mystery. So often parents have to answer the questions like “What is that?” or “What does it mean?”. A child still explores the world and seeks to understand the great issues of life, asking an adult to be his wise companion in this complex but nevertheless exciting journey.
The show summons us to join the Little Prince and once again indulge ourselves in the journey of discovery and revelation, whilst not so much observing the outer world, but focusing on understanding the people around us.
Director Vija Blūzma comments: “The most fascinating thing is that the creation of the show is produced directly on the stage. The artists are working with the sand in front of the audience and one can witness the miracle of a sand tale, how this world is created and how it can change.
What I myself find the most appealing in this material and in this wonderful classic story about the Little Prince is the Little Prince himself. He discovers the world through adventures, happenings and people he meets and at the same time people discover and find themselves thanks to this Little Prince. He is like a child, who is very eager to explore this world, to understand how it works and why things happen the way they do and not otherwise. And the Prince, looking at the world through the eyes of a child, sees it clearer, much more honest. Just as our children would like us to give them clear and honest answers to their questions, without trying to mask, enhance or telling “fairy stories”.
It would be great if parents and children could read the book and talk it over before attending the show. This would make the show a great sequel to this conversation.”
The show is recommended for ages 5+ and adults.
